Dooley Urges Varadkar To Prevent Shannon Strikes

The Transport Minister has been urged to help prevent any threat of strike action at Shannon, Dublin and Cork airports as the row over workers pensions rumbles on.

SIPTU says 15,000 members are affected in the dispute with Aer Lingus and the DAA. and though planned stikes at Shannon and other airports were called off for Monday, the Union warned industrial action will be taken if a resolution isn’t found.

Talks involving all sides have been taking place at the Labour Relations Commission, but broke last night without a resolution, and reports say both sides are not optimistic about a deal.

Fianna Fail’s Transport Spokesman and Clare TD Timmy Dooley says Minister Leo Varadkar needs to intervene to keep the country’s airports open for business.
