Doolin coast Gurad calls for safety on the water

Doolin Coast Guard is calling on boating enthusiasts to exercise caution following a number of ‘false alarms’ off the North Clare coast involving so-called ‘chinese lanterns’.

The paper or cardboard lanterns, with a candle inside, are capable of flight and can appear similar to an emergency flare from a distance

The coast guard has been to investigate them on a number of times in recent weeks, only to discover that no emergency was taking place.
