Plans for a state of the art Coastguard Unit at Doolin have been given the green light after a 12 year wait.
Clare County Council has granted the OPW planning permission to proceed with the 1.9 million euro base near the pier in North Clare which would be one of the largest of its kind in Ireland
23 members of the Doolin Coastguard, along with local representatives have been campaigning for new facilities for over a decade years now, and currently don’t even have toilets or shower facilities.
Mattie Shannon with the Doolin Coastguard says the announcement is a great boost for North Clare while local councillor Martin Conway is calling on the Office of Public Works to proceed to tender without delay.
