The HSE West is hoping an emergency cash injection will help ease the serious overcrowding at the region’s main A&E department at Dooradoyle.
It’s applied for specific funding under the remit of the Department of Health’s new Special Delivery Unit(SDU) with the monies to come from funds originally allocated by the Government to the National Treatment Purchase fund.
Its hoped the cash injection will enable Limerick Regional Hospital hospital to implement measures which will ease the huge pressures in the emergency department and improve the patient service.
Last month nursing staff in Dooradoyle agreed to suspend strike action after management agreed to provide extra resources to ease overcrowding at hospital’s emergency department.
Other recommendations included a full review of rosters and resources across all Mid West hospital and a review of day work that can be transferred to Ennis General and Nenagh Hospital in an effort to ease the pressure on Limerick.
