Double Honours For Lisdoonvarna At BT Young Scientist And Technology Exhibition

A student of Mary Immaculate Secondary School in Lisdoonvarna has won one of the main awards at this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.

Sarah McNamara won first place in the Biological & Ecological Intermediate Individual award for her project in which she compared upland and lowland soils in the Burren.

The school’s science teacher John Sims, who this year was bringing students to the exhibition for the 30th year running, won the Perrigo Educator of Excellence Award.

Lara Mellett of Niamh McMahon of Colaiste Muire in Ennis were honoured in the Social and Behaviour Sciences category for their project, which asked if the Leaving Cert was fair.

Their schoolmate Jennifer Weston, Roisín McNamara of Mary Immaculate Secondary School in Lisdoonvarna and Gavin Guthrie of St. Flannan’s COllege were all highly-commended for their projects.
