Clare Comhaltas has poured cold water over suggestions that Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann could return to Ennis within the next five years.
But the organisation says if Clare County Council is planning on putting a proposal together with the aim of securing it once again, they will consider it with them.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann triumphantly returned to Ennis in 2016 and 2017 after an almost 40-year absence.
Despite the inclement weather conditions, at times, the traditional music festival was widely acclaimed by attendees and now, it’s hoped it could be brought back to County Clare in the near future.
Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Daly has put down a motion calling for a proposal to be submitted to the national executive to hold it here again, which has received broad support.
But Clare Comhaltas is expressing concern that the five year timeframe for the Fleadh’s return is an unrealistic goal.
Last year, Fleadh na Mumhan was held in Ennis and it’s returning again this summer and Chair of Clare Comhaltas Joe Arkins says that’s the primary focus at the moment.
He says they will consider any proposal that Clare County Council wants to work on with them for the national Fleadh – but he feels it’ll be a while before we see it return to the Banner County.
