It proposes that in the case of a medical emergency – one doctor could grant a termination – while if the woman is suffering from an illness – two doctors would be required and then 3 medical experts if there’s a risk of suicide.

The 33 page document will now be examined at the Oireachtas Health Committee before being presented to the Dáil and Seanad.

Meanwhile speaking at a press conference on the issue this morning, Taoiseach Enda Kenny insisted the law on abortion is not being changed.

The Taoiseach says it will bring protection to women and their unborn babies and well as legal clarity to the medical professionals and the legislation will be strictly within the parameters of existing legislation.
