Drug Offences Rise By Nearly 40% In Clare

Drug offences in Clare have risen by nearly 40 per cent in some instances in the past year.

This week’s meeting of the Joint Policing Committee was told offences relating to the sale and supply of drugs rose by 39 per cent in 2020, with the possession of drugs rising by more than 20 per cent in twelve months.

It backs up CSO data released at the end of last year which suggested Clare is seeing the highest number of drugs offences since records began back in 2003.

Superintendent Brendan McDonagh of Ennis Garda Station says the jump may be at least partly due to an increased Garda presence on roads across the county.
