Clare County Council estimates that it has spent €900,000 in its response to the recent bad weather.
The figure has prompted calls for central government to compensate the local authority for the unexpected expense.

Dozens of Council staff have worked each of the past two weekends, carrying out works and repairs and answering an emergency phone line, as Clare was lashed by heavy rains.
