East Clare Councillor Leads Calls For Government To Reclaim Aer Lingus Shares

An East Clare Councillor is leading calls in this county for the government to ask for a stake in Aer Lingus as a condition of providing it further financial supports.

It comes as Clare’s public representatives have pledged to engage with Cabinet ministers to attempt to reverse the airline’s decision to permanently close its cabin crew base at Shannon.

It’s believed Aer Lingus is looking for up to 150 million euro from the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund.

The government sold its 25 percent stakeholding in the airline to private investors in May 2015.

However, Killaloe Fianna Fail Councillor Tony O Brien says this has now proved to be the wrong move, and wants any further cash injections to come in exchanges for Aer Lingus shares.
