Plans for a Seaplane service in East Clare have been given the go ahead by Clare County Council.
Harbour Flights Ireland has been granted permission for the development of its sea plane base in Mountshannon despite opposition from local angling clubs on Lough Derg
Harbour Flights Ireland Limited, formerly Harbour Air is now going ahead with plans to install a floating pontoon, parking area and associated infrastructure for landing its sea plane service at the Harbour in Mountshannon.
But following environmental concerns raised about local wildlife and fishing in the area Clare County Council has ruled that an ecologist must be on staff to oversee the project
Further to this trees and hedgerows must be protected in the area, and an "Oil Spill Kit" and ring buoys must be in place during the construction and operation of the base.
Local angling clubs believe sea planes will have a negative impact on wildlife on Lough Derg – they’ll meet later this week to consider a possible appeal
