A UCD economist is proposing a 6 billion euro bailout to solve the crisis facing mortgage holders.
Morgan Kelly says such a scheme would mean home loans would be reduced to an affordable level for some, while others would be allowed walk away from their property debt without being pursued.
There have been repeated calls in the past for Irish banks to take action to ease the burden on cash-strapped home-owners.
