Claims Some Rural Pub Owners May Find Proposed Measures Difficult To Implement

An East Clare publican admits proposed social distancing measures could be difficult to implement in many pubs in rural areas.

Representatives from the pub trade are meeting Government officials this week to discuss a number of new proposals, which would allow them to open at the end of June, rather than on August 10th.

The social distancing measures include table service only, banning live music and DJs and a limit on the number of people in the premises at any one time.

Ger Shortt, owner of Shortt’s Bar in Feakle, says smaller publicans will find it difficult to implement the measures, but he believes on the whole, they are workable.
