Ennis-based Coffee Cup Maker To Produce Protective Face Masks To Stop Spread Of Covid-19

An Ennis-based coffee cup maker is to start making protective face masks at its factory in Ballymaley, as part of efforts to stop the spread of Covid-19.

70% of CupPrint, which produces compostable coffee cups, was acquired by Huhtakmaki two years and the Finnish Food Packaging Giant repurposed one of its plants last month, allowing for the production of four million masks a week.

Following on from the success of that project, the company will now produce the protective equipment at its factory in Ennis, as well as at some of its other facilities in England, Poland and Russia.

The Irish Independent reports that Huhtamaki expects to be making eight million masks a week by June, to help people in close contact occupations return to work safely.
