Education Department endorse amalgamation plans of Killaloe Schools

The Department of Education is advising Killaloe’s two primary schools to amalgamate.

Initial discussions on amalgamation have already been held between the boards of management at the town’s Convent Primary school and it’s Boys National school as Clare FM’s Gavin Grace reports

An inspection of Killaloe’s Convent Primary School has found it’s staff are committed and professional and overall, standards are good.

However, a report at the school recommends that it join up with the local Boy’s National School, with inspectors saying this would ensure the future provision of co-educational schooling for the pupils in Killaloe.

Discussions on this have already been held, and in response the board of management say talks have continued in the intervening period.

Whole school reports have been carried out of three other Clare primary schools.

The standard of creative writing came in for particular praise at Dangan National School, Tulla while inspectors said the teaching in English, Irish and Mathematics is good at St Joseph’s National School, Miltown Malbay.

However, inspectors at St. Finnchta’s National School in Sixmilebridge found the standards of pupils’ written work, their oral skills and their reading skills in English and in Irish should be further improved

In response, the school says it has taken action to this regard.
