EL Electronic to enter consultation with staff over proposed redundancies

 

A Shannon based company set to cut up to 11 percent of its workforce is due to begin a 30 consultation phase with staff.

Its understood that Ei Electronics, which is situated adjacent to Shannon Airport  is seeking up to 40 redundancies.

Established in 1988 following a management buyout of  General Electric Company , Ei Electronics which manufactures Residential Fire Safety Smoke Alarms, employ over 350 people at its base in Shannon – adjacent to Shannon Airport.

On Friday its understood that management called staff to a meeting to inform them that its seeking up to 40 redundancies in the coming months.

However its believed it may only be a temporary measure while the company attempts to clear some of its excess stock.

A 30 consultation process is now set to begin and a statement from management is due today.

Elsewhere and

Siptu union representatives of staff at the Clare Based Lynch Hotel Group are set to meet with the examiner appointed to two of the hotels within the chain – the Dromoland based, Clare Inn and Breaffy House Resort in Mayo.

Over a 150 people are employed at the two premises and talks will take place to try and secure the long term future of the employees.
