Clare residents who feel they are victims of elder abuse are being urged not to suffer in silence.
There were 2,500 reports of alleged elder abuse throughout Ireland last year, a marginal decline on 2012, but statistics show the rate of abuse in this region is lower than the national average.

A third of all reported abuse was psychological, while financial and physical abuse and also neglect were reported last year.
Paschal Moynihan, Head of Specialist Services for older people in HSE West, says they are concerned that some older people are not speaking out.
