A local election candidate in Clare as described An Taisce as "enemies of society", following their calls for less use of Shannon Airport.
Independent Ennis East Candidate JJ McCabe has launched a scathing attack on the environmental organisation and Heritage officer Ian Lumley who said reduced use of Shannon was vital to halt climate change.
The 72 year old farmer from Clarecastle has contested four previous elections without success and is best known for a major land deal in 2005 in which he was paid 18.8 million euro for a 20 acre site close to the route of the Ennis by-pass.
Mr McCabe admits he’s known as "the Millionaire candidate" and hopes he can make changes in politics, saying it’s time to remove the barriers to local development and badly needed job creation
