90,620 Clare residents are eligible to vote in the today's local elections.
Today's ballot will determine the 28 people who will sit on the new Clare County Council, and voters have until 10 o'clock tonight to have their say.
New members of the European parliament are also being elected today, along with two TDs in by-elections in Longford-Westmeath and Dublin West.
69 Clare candidates have put their names forward for the local elections, spread across four electoral areas.
There are two eight-seat constituences – West Clare has the highest number of eligible voters at just under 29,000, while Ennis voters will contend with the longest ballot paper in the country which will have a total of 27 candidates.
Around 2,000 people in the town also see their voting station moved from the now-closed National School on the Kilrush Road to Ennis Town Council's office on Drumbiggle Road.
Six seats will be on offer in Shannon, while the 17,600 voters of the Killaloe electoral area must choose between eleven runners.
All of the Clare voters who are EU citizens – 88,454 people – will also cast their ballots in the European elections
After voting closes at 10 o'clock tonight, the 156 ballot boxes will be brought to the West County Hotel in Ennis where counting begins tomorrow morning.
It's expected to be at least Sunday evening before all of the 28 new Councillors are deemed elected.
