Element Six Talks on Survival Plan

One of the unions representing Element Six staff has agreed to enter talks with management on the company’s survival plan.

The move by Unite follows another bitter war of words between the CEO and unions after Cyrus Jilla issued a letter to staff on Wednesday warning them the company is edging closer to closure.

In a statement released by Element Six last night management welcomed moves by one of the unions at the Shannon plant to enter meaningful negotiations on the Sustainability plan which aims to save 163 jobs.

Talks are set to get underway at 9.30 this morning and the company’s General Manager Ken Sullivan said he’s hopeful they would lead to a quick resolution to the problems at the industrial diamond manufacturer.

Meanwhile CEO Cyrus Jilla has described the move as supportive, constructive and highly appreciated to resolve what’s a very difficult situation. He has also written to SIPTU President Jack O Connor encouraging him to ensure his local representatives in Shannon would do likewise

He says this would demonstrate that the union has a high interest in saving jobs and might avoid closure which by the end of the month is the only alternative”

This mornings talks between management and Unite officials comes ahead of a Labour Court hearing next week on the separate issue of redundancy pay.
