Element Six Welcome Acceptance of Workers on Sustainability Plan

Management at Element Six in Shannon are welcoming staff acceptance of the recent Labour Court Recommendation aimed at saving 163 jobs at the troubled company.

It follows a decision by a large majority of workers to back the implementation of the Shannon Sustainability Plan in a bid to avoid the loss of 370 jobs, though 207 workers will now take redundancy.

In a statement to Clare FM Element Six General Manager Ken Sullivan, said he was extremely pleased with the decision as it now secures the retention of industrial diamond manufacturing and distribution operations in Shannon for the long term.

The company is describing the resolution as the best possible outcome in the current economic climate, and SIPTU’s Shannon Spokesperson Mary O’Donnell says it’s the end of a very difficult time for staff.

The outcome of the staff ballot at Element Six is being described by local representatives as "bittersweet".

Clare T.D. Timmy Dooley is welcoming the decision by SIPTU affiliated staff at Element 6 to accept the recovery and redundancy package hammered out between unions and management with the help of the Labour Court.

But he said it’s a bitter sweet day in the life of the long standing industrial Diamond manufacturing company in Shannon with so many people losing their job after many years of dedicated service.
