There are fears of further cuts to A&E services at Ennis General as part of HSE efforts to address the serious doctor shortage at Limerick Regional Hospital.
Its claimed Nenagh’s emergency services were the original target with proposals to wind up weekend A&E as well as curtail week day services, however in a statement to Clare FM the HSE has robustly rejected this.
However the INMO now allege cuts to Nenagh were only averted at the last minute due to political intervention and there are concerns Clare’s County Hospital could now be targeted.
Mary Fogarty of the INMO says if the doctor shortage at Limerick Regional is not addressed then Ennis will face a similar fate.
