The main shopping streets of Ennis could be car free for some of the busiest shopping days this Christmas in a bid to boost local trade.
Though pedestrianisation of O’Connell Street and Abbey Street remains a contentious issue with local traders, two car free shopping days ran successfully last year, and the town council is proposing a similar initiative on the 17th and 24th next month.

But given the backlash to long-term pedestrianisation moves last year, Ennis businesses will be consulted before those days are finalised at the council’s December meeting.
