Ennis facing potential flooding risk

Residents and businesses across Ennis are being warned of potential flooding over the coming days.

Ennis Town Council has issued the precautionary notice as recent heavy rainfall has resulted in above average water levels along the River Fergus.

Met Eireann records also show the total accumulated rainfall recorded in Clare from the 1 to the 19th of November is greater than the figure for the entire same month last year.

Ennis Town Council says it is closely monitoring river levels in the town and has implemented a number of flood prevention measures on a precautionary basis.

It’s also advising residents and business owners in flood prone areas of the town to familiarise themselves with actions that can be undertaken immediately prior to a flooding event to reduce the risk to life and property.

It’s three years to the week since the serious flooding of 2009 – and  Ennis town Manager Ger Dollard says they want everyone to be full prepared in order to prevent a repeat of the damage caused then
