Ennis Gardaí Taking Several Measures to Tackle Robberies.

Plain Clothes gardaí are patrolling the streets of Ennis in a bid to tackle a surge in armed raids. 

Three incidents have been reported in recent weeks with 6 additional burglaries.

Business people have raised concerns about the crimes and an increase in anti social behaviour. 

Clare Gardaí have altered their patrol routes and times as part of the measures in tackling the recent spate of burglaries in Ennis. 

A number of arrests have been made in relation to some of these incidents. 

Superintendent Derek Smart says he's confident the members of the force in based in the town are equipped to clamp down on the issues. 

He says a number of measures are being taken including the rearranging of patrols and using plain clothes Gardaí

Brian O Neill of the Rowan Tree and President of Visit Ennis is one of those raising concerns about the incidents. 

He says business people are very worried. 

Mr O'Neill is callin on local politicians to do more to support the Gardaí

Superintendent Smart says the county's crime prevention officer  Sgt Joe Downey is available to businesses to provide advice on how to secure their premises. 

Separately the Superintendent says work is also underway to tackle anti social behaviour in the town.
