Ennis General is the worst hospital in the county when it comes to absenteeism.
A breakdown of figures released by the HSE this week reveal an average of 22 staff are missing from work on a daily basis.
So far this year the Health Service Executive has forked out more than 110m to agencies that provide temporary staff for hospitals nationwide-
The HSE west is the worst hit – with over a thousand employees in the region"off sick" on any given day.
In a further breakdown of those figures seen by the Irish Independent – Ennis General has the worst track record – absenteeism levels are nearly at 10 percent with 22 missing staff from its 238 workforce daily.
This compares to the national average of just under 5 percent
"Sick days" among general support staff is the biggest area affected – running at 18 percent at Clare’s County Hospital while nurses there have an absenteeism rate of over 12 percent – compared to the national average of over 5.
Other hospitals that have high rates of sick days include Limerick Maternity Hospital, Saint Johns, Nenagh and Portlaoise.
