Market Street and Market Place have been closed since Monday and will remain shut for the coming 12 weeks.

It's part of Garraunakilla Market Regeneration Project and this stage of the works will include new roads, footpaths and upgrades to the sewer network.

However, local business owners have expressed concern over the impact the extent and length of the closures will have on their trade.

Barry O'Driscoll of Precious Pets in Market Place accepts the work needs to be done but is worried about the disruption it will cause.

Others traders are unhappy over the lack of communication from the council on the road closures.

Sean Cahalan, of Rene Cusacks Fishmongers, claims they could have been given more information by the local authority.

However, shops in the area are stressing that they remain open for business.

Liam McCannon of McCannon Menswear is reminding people there is still plenty of access to the Market area.
