The Head of the Irish Business Against Litter League believes Ennis could have achieved top marks this year but for a few minor trouble spots.
However Clare’s County Town has attained "litter free" status and ranks 12th overall out of 53 towns surveyed by the group -which is in improvement on its moderately littered standing in 2009’s study.
Waterford was deemed the country’s cleanest city while Limerick was branded the most littered city for a second year in a row.
Many sites in Ennis were found not just to be litter free but well presented such as the Ballymaley Business Park, The Court House, the Park beside the Court House and Galway Approach Road
However Dr Tom Cavanagh, Chairman of Irish Business Against Litter, says there was one bad site – the R458 Approach Road and said while the road was new “the overall presentation was poor due to the unfinished appearance of the grass verges.”
