Ennis Town Council has stressed its commitment to removing excess lead traces in the local water supply, now that the major water problems of the big freeze have been dealt with.
The local supply in Marian Avenue, Connolly Villas and St. Michael’s Villas is said to contain excessive amounts of lead, with reports of up to 10 times the acceptable level due to antiquated pipes in older homes.
The council has been aware of the problem for some time, though engineering resources were recently focused on more wide-ranging water problems related to the coldest winter in years.
