Ennis Will Not Bid For 2018 Fleadh

It's been confirmed that Ennis won't host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann for a third year in a row.

The county town has been successful over the weekend in it's bid to hold the world's largest traditional music festival for a second year in 2017, but the chairman of the Fleadh organising committee says the festival will move on after that.

This year's Fleadh Cheoil ne hÉireann is expected to attract 400,000 people to Ennis over ten days in August, generating around 38 million euro to the local economy.

And similar numbers are expected in 2017, when the event is held in the county for a second year.

The announcement was made over the weekend after members of the Comhaltas Ard Comhairle voted in favour of Ennis's bid to return the event to Clare for a second time, beating off stiff competition from Drogheda, the only other town to make a bid.

The CEO of Ennis Chamber, Rita Mc Inerney says it's important that Ennis is seen as a hub during the event so that the rest of the county can benefit from it.

A number of counties have hosted the world's largest traditional music festival three years in a row but the Chairman of Clare's Fleadh Organising Committee says that won't be the case for Ennis.

Mícheál Ó Riabhaigh believes the festival will return to the banner county in the not so distant future.
