The Town of Ennis will have a new Mayor under local government reforms despite the abolition of the local town Council.
Fine Gael Councilor Johnny Flynn told this month’s meeting of Ennis Town Council that the new 8 seat Ennis Municipal District of Clare County Council will include the role of Town Mayor, and says he’s been assured of this by the Environment Minister.
But he called for guarantees on the budget that will be allocated towards the annual running costs of local services in Ennis and adequate staffing to support the town, given its size and population of up to 30,000 people.
