EPA Warns It May Pursue Prosecution If Clare Water Quality Issues Aren’t Addressed

The Environmental Protection Agency is warning it may pursue a prosecution against Irish Water, if issues affecting water quality on three Clare supplies aren’t addressed in a timely manner.

The EPA’s latest report shows the quality of drinking water in public supplies across the country remains high, though it’s warning that supply to over one million people nationally is vulnerable to failure, posing a health risk.

Three Clare supplies are among 52 on the Remedial Action List, namely Corofin, Ennistymon and West Clare, which means they’ve been identified as at-risk supplies that must be prioritised.

Irish Water has indicated that works in these areas have been delayed, but the EPA’s Dr Michelle Minihan has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that failure to complete works on time could result in further action.
