ESB International is investigating the possibility of establishing a wave energy project off the West Clare coast.
The company has applied to the Government for a licence to explore the foreshore off Killard Point near Doonbeg, as well as for separate explorations off the coast of Co. Mayo.
It’s hoped the WestWave project, which also involves a number of other wave energy companies, will lead to the installation of power-generating units by 2015.
