EU Agriculture Ministers gather for talks on horse meat crisis.

The Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney will today chair a meeting of European agriculture ministers in Brussels to discuss the food labelling crisis.

The meeting will be attended by officials from countries implicated in the scandal, including Britain, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania and Sweden.

Last night, authorities in the UK, shut down an abattoir and a meat processing factory after food safety experts raised fresh concerns about horse meat being sold as beef.

The crisis was sparked last month –  when Irish food safety experts detected equine DNA in beef burgers that were manufactured in Ireland for sale here and in the UK.
