EU leaders have pledged one billion euro to help refugees fleeing conflict in Syria.
Officials said late-night talks on the refugee crisis in Brussels went better than expected.

Ministers also agreed to tighten controls with EU-backed border personnel.
Speaking afterwards, the meeting's chairman Donald Tusk said "the greatest tide of refugees and migrants is yet to come".
