Yesterday’s referendum in Syria will be discussed when European Ministers and the UN hold separate meetings later.
The vote – which could see President Bashar al-Assad stay in power for another 16 years – has been branded a farce and a sham by western governments.

It comes as residents in the anti-government stronghold of Homs continue to endure shelling by the Syrian army, with scores of deaths reported in recent days.
