The Mayor of Kilrush is hopeful that a program of works signed off on by the Town Council will lead to an economic boost.
Over €800,000 is to be spent on upgrading sports and children's facilities, road safety works, upgrades to tourist facilities and other local amenities.

Some of the works will begin shortly, while others will be carried out after the Council's abolition, after an order was signed to ensure €541,000 in funds is ring-fenced for the town.
