Extra Garda Patrols Following Shannon Shooting Incident

Extra patrols are being carried out in Shannon following a shooting incident last week.

Shortly before 11 o’clock lst Wednesday morning, Gardaí received reports that a gunshot had been fired in the Illaunamanagh area of the town.

During follow up searches the same day, a firearm was recovered, which was subsequently taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.

Further searches on Friday and Saturday resulted in the arrest of two men in their twenties and late teens and they were questioned at Shannon under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

They have since been released without charge, and a file being sent to the DPP.

Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Triona Brooks is issuing a fresh appeal for information, and she’s reassuring people locally that Gardaí are dealing with issues in the area.
