Fall In Burglaries In Co. Clare

There's been a significant drop in the number of burglaries in County Clare in the past year, according to figures outlined to the Joint Policing Committee today.

However, there has been a rise in some other crimes in the past 12 months.

In his report to the committee today, Chief Superintendent John Kerin revealed that there has been a significant drop in burglaries in the county, with 38 fewer such crimes so far this year, compared to the same period in 2015.

He put this down to a crackdown on burglaries by Gardai in recent months.

However, he also pointed to a rise in other areas, including thefts from vehicles, with 73 such crimes so far in 2016 as opposed to 45 in the first 2 and a half months of last year.

There is also a rise in what are described as minor assualts, with the majority of these put down to domestic disputes.

Chief Superintendent Kerin also expressed grave concern over the resources available to Gardai in the county.

There are 44 fewer officers in Clare than in 2010 and four more set to leave between now and September.
