Government funding for local roadd repairs are down on last year, despite a bill of €11m faced by Clare County Council following recent flooding and freezing conditions.
In all, the Department of Transport has announced almost €15.6m for regional and local roads in Clare , a decrease of about 3% on last year’s figure.
However over half of the allocation, €8.2m, has been given to the council as an improvement grant and can be used to repair roads that have been badly damaged by the recent adverse weather conditions
Meanwhile, Ennis Town Council has been granted €410,000 and Kilrush Town Council have been given €139,000, both increases of 10% on last year’s figure.
