Family feud may have sparked French Alps Murders

French police are investigating if a family dispute was behind the murders of four people in the French Alps.

Post-mortem tests are being carried out on three members of one British family, as well as a local cyclist who died at a beauty spot near Chevaline.

The village – with its population of just 200 – has been left reeling at the gruesome murders.

The two daughters of the family are recovering in hospital – the elder of the two, who underwent surgery for head injuries is now said to be over the worst.

France’s Interior Minister has defended police who failed to spot the four-year-old girl who hid for eight hours in the car under the bodies of her mother and grandmother.

Local police left the car untouched with the remains inside because they were concerned about compromising the work of a forensics team that was travelling from Paris.

Interior Minister Manuel Valls said that proper procedures had been followed.
