The family of Kilrush man Jimmy Grogan who died due to medical misadventure hope recommendations made at his inquest will be carried out in full.
The court heard that the 73 year old died minutes after arriving at Regina House in Kilrush after being transferred from Ennis General in November 2007.
The jury was told that the required oxygen to keep Mr Grogan alive wasn’t available at the HSE facility in West Clare and he effectively smothered to death.

The court heard that the 73 year old died minutes after arriving at Regina House in Kilrush after being transferred from Ennis General in November 2007.
The jury was told that the required oxygen to keep Mr Grogan alive wasn’t available at the HSE facility in West Clare and he effectively smothered to death.
He was admitted to Ennis General on the 21st of November 2007 but discharged two days later and sent to Regina House to receive palliative care.
Mr Grogan required 15 litres of oxygen a minute to avoid being critically ill and had that in the ambulance, but Regina House only had five litres of oxygen per minute for patients and the 73 year old was dead within minutes of the ambulance leaving.
In her deposition his partner Muriel claimed Ennis General failed in its duty of care to the 73 year old who was terminally ill.resulting in his certain death.
She also told the court her partner wasn’t discharged from the county hospital but thrown out and abandoned by the healthcare professionals they all trusted.
The jury returned a verdict of death by medial misadventure and recommended that in future when patients were transferred to HSE facilities there should be greater communication between all parties, including medical personnel and family members.
