A Clare mother, who’s family of ten narrowly escaped tragedy after falling ill with suspected Carbon Monoxide poisoning, says she’s still having nightmares over their ordeal.
Emergency services were alerted in the early hours of Saturday morning, after a number of members of the Sherlock family fell unconscious, while watching a film in front of an open fireplace.
They have been living in their council-leased property in Lisdoonvarna since last summer, but it wasn’t equipped with a carbon monoxide alarm
Clare County Council says carbon monoxide alarms are installed in all Council properties undergoing refurbishment works, but the onus is on tenants to ensure they’re fitted in homes where works haven’t been carried out.
Priscilla Sherlock has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that her whole family are traumatised.
Meanwhile, Clare County Council has issued a fresh warning about the dangers of carbon monoxide build-up in the home in light of the incident.
It’s advising that anyone who requires assistance with installing their alarm can contact the local authority’s housing section.
The local authority is also urging householders to make sure fuel-burning appliances and heating devices are properly vented and maintained, and says that knowing the symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning is important.
