Deep concerns been expressed over new charges being introduced at Shannon Airport from October.
Passenger fees are set to increase by 1.58 cent bringing it to 6.32 for the start of the winter season in a move management at the Mid West Airport says is small but very necessary.
Defending the price hike a spokesperson for Shannon Airport says its the first increase in six years and brings them in line with other peer regional airports such as Cork Aberdeen and Malmo and that all other aircraft related charges are being frozen at current levels.
However Shannon Independent Councillor Patricia McCarthy fears it will adversely impact on passenger numbers at a time when the airport is struggling
