Fears for Clare Garda Numbers as Court Changes take effect

There are fears garda numbers in parts of Clare could be cut with the removal of court sittings from Ennistymon and Shannon.

This week marks the start of several changes to the county’s judicial services including the cessation of Ennistymon and Shannon District Court Areas, with those sittings moving permanently to Ennis.

Killaloe cases meanwhile will be heard at O’ Donovan’s Bar and Restaurant in Ballina.

The changes mean Ennis Courthouse will now hold 120 district court sittings a week, compared to 71 in 2008.
