Fears over special diabetic unit for Midwest

A vital specialist diabetic nursing service for children at the Limericks Midwestern regional Hospital and Univers Hospital Galway could be lost if posts are not filled by June 2012.

That’s according to Fine Gael senator Fidelma Healy Eames though she’s pleased with the announcement of funding for the new service to ensure that children with Type 1 diabetes in the west will no longer have to travel to Dublin for treatment.

Senator Healy Eames fears the nursing posts could be lost if they are not filled early in the year.
