Fianna Fail Fall-Out From O’Higgins Report Will Be A Test

Fianna Fáil says the fall-out from the O'Higgins Commission will be a test of the Policing Authority as well as the Garda force.

Last night the authority issued a severe rebuke of Garda management after meeting Commissioner Noirín O'Sullivan.

One member of the Cabinet says the Commissioner must be given a chance to put her case at two public hearings next month.

The policing authority issued a hard hitting statement last night, expressing "deep unease" with management of the force.

It noted with dismay that the same failures were being examined now as had been identified in previous reports.

The authority is planning to hold hearings with the Commissioner in public next month.

The Commissioner was told to carry out a culture audit and other tasks and appear in public before the authority next month.

But Sinn Féin says the request from the authority for a formal response to the O'Higgins report shows the two statements issued by Noirin O'Sullivan on teh matter were insufficient.
