Fianna Fail meet over O’Cuiv split

Micheál Martin met with the Fianna Fail parliamentary party last night after the departure of Eamon O’Cuiv as his deputy leader.

He stepped down after saying he couldn’t guarantee to support the party’s stance on the upcoming fiscal treaty referendum.

Eamon O’Cuiv could even face expulsion from Fianna Fail if he votes against the treaty in the Dáil.

The Irish Independent says backbenchers and Senators were inundated with calls from angry grass roots members of Fianna Fail last night – over the resignation of Eamon O’Cuiv.

The EU treaty referendum has split the party – with TDs angry over Eamon O’Cuiv’s decision to make the referendum an issue.

Whilst local activists and members are not happy with how Deputy O’Cuiv was treated.

An emergency meeting was held in Leinster House last night – but most TDs were happy that the matter had been dealt with.

All eyes are now on the party’s Ard Fheis this weekend – which is set to be a lively affair
