Figures Released For Repeat Patients at Limerick Hospital

Amid ongoing concerns about overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick, new figures have revealed that thousands of patients repeatedly attended the A&E Unit in Dooradoyle last year.

Over 550 went to the MidWest's accident and Emergency Unit at least five times, according to new figures from the HSE.

21 people attended the Accident and Emergency Department at Dooradoyle at least 13 times last year.

A further 26 were there at least ten times, while the total numbers who presented themselves at the unit on at least five occasions stood at 559.

The statistics are broadly in line with the previous year, and were presented to members of the Western Regional Health Forum this week when concerns about overcrowding are at a high level.

Nursing representatives recently described the unit as 'utter chaos', while this week saw a total of 147 patients on trolleys between Monday and Friday.
