Final Dail Seats Filled

The final seats in Dáil Éireann have now been filled – after the end of a marathon count in the Longford-Westmeath constituency.

The result was announced there this morning – following the election of Fine Gael's Peter Burke and Labour's Willie Penrose.

Defeated outgoing FG TD James Bannon says he will take advice on whether to pursue a legal option as the margin of his defeat is very narrow.

And he isn't ruling out a return to politics.

It means Labour has secured a crucial seventh seat in the Dail to give the party speaking rights.

The makeup of the 32nd Dail sees Fine Gael with 50 seats, Fianna Fail has 44, Sinn Fein 23, 17 Independents and Labour on 7
